Alien Day is celebrated every year on April 26, a playful nod to the name of the moon (LV-426) where the terrifying beasts were first discovered in the original 1979 classic.
And this year, Xbox Game Pass is honouring the sci-fi franchise by adding the brilliant Alien: Isolation to the service for one weekend only.
Alien: Isolation is free to play for all Xbox Game Pass subscribers right now, and will be removed from the service on Sunday evening (April 27). Any progress you make will be carried over to the full version of the game, should you choose to buy it after the weekend’s free event.
“Discover the true meaning of fear in Alien: Isolation, a survival horror set in an atmosphere of constant dread and mortal danger,” reads the official description. “Fifteen years after the events of Alien, Ellen Ripley’s daughter, Amanda enters a desperate battle for survival, on a mission to unravel the truth behind her mother’s disappearance.”
Last year Alien: Isolation celebrated its ten-year anniversary and developers Creative Assembly confirmed a sequel was in the works. “On the 10th anniversary, it seems only fitting to let you know that we have heard your distress calls loud and clear. Today, I’m delighted to confirm, on behalf of the team, that a sequel to Alien: Isolation is in early development,” they wrote on social media. However no further details have been announced.
It’s been a busy week for Xbox Game Pass members. Not only has the service added Make Way and NHL 25 this weekend as part of the latest Free Play event, but two huge Day One titles have joined the library.
After months of speculation, the huge The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake was announced earlier this week and was surprise-released onto Game Pass straight after the reveal. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was also added to the service yesterday (April 24). The first game from indie studio Sandfall Interactive has also become the best-reviewed game of 2025 so far.
Later this year, Xbox Game Pass will be getting Doom: The Dark Ages and the recently-announced Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4.
In other news, following Amazon Prime Video’s adaptation of The Wheel Of Time books, a new video game based on the fantasy epic is in the works.
