11 One Chicago Ship-Based Spinoffs We’d Watch In a Heartbeat

We’re all aware that we’re in an age of sequels, spinoffs, and franchises.
And now, for those who have loved popular ships over the years, we’ve even seen spinoffs based exclusively on those. The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Lived was a fantastic spinoff based entirely on Richonne’s relationship, delivering a beautiful love story amid an action-packed horror series.
Meanwhile, fans are highly anticipating NCIS: Tony & Ziva, a fun, caper-type action series based on Tiva’s dynamic.
We’ve previously compiled a list of ideas we have for One Chicago prequels that could keep the franchise alive and thriving.
But what about One Chicago ships?
Thanks to the suggestion from our TV Fanatic commenter 5021max, we’re delving into a list of Ship-Based spinoffs inspired by some of One Chicago’s mostly departed and coveted pairings. You asked, and we answered!
April & Ethan – Chicago Sanctuary

One of the most rewarding moments was when Ethan and April found their way back to one another and got married. Chicago Med Season 8 Episode 9 marked their marriage and official departure from the series, and it was one of the best weddings in One Chicago history.
Their life as a married couple was only beginning, and it would be fantastic to see a spinoff limited series of this couple as they navigate their new life as married first responders running their own mobile clinic in the streets of Chicago.
It’s a unique spin on the traditional medical drama, and it would be more action-oriented and hands-on as the two, and potentially a growing staff, take their expertise directly to those vulnerable people who need them the most.
The series would feature numerous medical action scenes and provide an in-depth, topical look at the plight of the unhoused, displaced veterans and the struggles of the low and working class within a rapidly deteriorating healthcare system.
Amid that, we would explore April and Ethan’s new marriage, as their family expands unexpectedly as they become unofficial foster parents of a teen they helped on the streets.
Balancing marriage, a demanding work life that has them serving the community and advocating for those less fortunate, and parenting a teen with their own traumas could make for a fascinating angle to catch up with this coveted couple.
Brett & Casey – Portland Response

For diehard Brettsey fans, the happy ending came when Brett and Casey married each other and headed back to Portland.
A Chicago Fire spinoff with these two would be a great way for the series to catch up with where things left off with this pairing. It would be a perfect blend of a family drama and a first responder series that follows the Caseys at home and out in the field.
With children they’ve adopted or become guardians of, Casey and Brett have jumped into the deep end of parenthood in many ways, and the series would strongly focus on what it’s like for them navigating parenthood as a blended family along with their high-demanding jobs.
From teenagers to toddlers, the Casey family has its work cut out for them, especially in a city like Portland, which is vastly different than Chicago.
Brett and Casey can reunite professionally at the same fire station, but it won’t be without some conflict and issues. After all, when you live together, raise a family together, and work together, it can be a lot sometimes, but nothing that this pairing cannot overcome.
The series would have many strong elements of a first response. Still, it would also speak to their family life, providing an excellent opportunity to explore Griffin and Ben, opening up another layer, and diving deeper into these characters as well.
Lindsay & Halstead – Joint Task Force: Deep Cover

It’s been years since Halstead and Lindsay have crossed paths. She departed in Chicago PD Season 5, and similarly, Halstead departed in Chicago PD Season 10.
Presumably, they haven’t kept in touch, but since Erin bolstered a reputation working in an FBI Narcotics Unit, and Halstead took a position in Army Intelligence.
This spinoff could follow the two coming face-to-face for the first time when they both partake in a joint task force put together to take down a South American cartel.
The series would be action-heavy, featuring Erin, Jay, and their team as they go undercover in the ultimate dangerous situations, where they play fast and loose, lack structure, and can fully give in to some of their darker natures.
But the task force isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. They also find themselves investigating their very own — leaving them with little choice but only to trust each other.
It could be a great way to reunite these two characters as they still struggle to overcome the impact of Voight, grapple with how Chicago brought out their darker sides, and try to navigate their relationship — whatever it may be — years later.
The past has a way of haunting when one least expects it.
Natalie & Will – Crossed Lines

While Will would probably fit in perfectly at Grey Sloan Memorial on Grey’s Anatomy, this spinoff would explore what the reality is after his happily ever after with Natalie and Owen.
Will’s reputation precedes him, making it difficult for him to find a job at a traditional hospital. Fortunately, there are unorthodox approaches.
Crossed Lines would follow Will pursuing the private sector of practicing medicine under a company comprised of like-minded individuals who skirt outside of the law at times when it comes to practicing medicine.
And, naturally, he’ll be crossing a bunch of lines as well as crossing paths with Natalie, who works at a hospital in direct conflict with the private sector.
The two will have to navigate their relationship when they’re on two different sides of the spectrum, practicing medicine and working under doctors who loathe each other.
Gabby & Casey – Search & Rescue: Disaster Response

This spinoff would take place a few years down the road. Griffin and Ben have gone off to school and started their own lives, thriving as new adults.
But Casey has faced hard times in the interim with a marriage that’s on the rocks with Brett. The two are separated when he learns of another natural disaster hitting Puerto Rico, and Gabby is accounted for.
Needing a change of scenery and driven to find someone he cares about, he volunteers for a disaster response unit’s search and rescue, hoping that he can find Gabby and save lives in the process.
It’ll be a pulse-pounding thriller that follows both Casey’s journey in trying to find Gabby amid the devastation on the island and Gabby’s determination to survive while saving others in the process, leading up to a long-awaited reunion.
When old feelings resurface, both will have to figure out if their paths were always meant to lead to one another, or should they bury things in the rubble once and for all.
Sylvie & Antonio – After the Storm

This One Chicago crossover romance ever got a chance to properly take off. A spinoff could rectify that.
Needing a fresh start after her divorce, Sylvie relocates to Miami after scoring a great job opportunity that has her heading her own emergency first response unit comprised of firefighters, paramedics, and law enforcement.
To her surprise, it results in her crossing paths with Antonio Dawson. It’s a new city, new experiences, but with old feelings reemerging as the two support each other through single parenthood, high-stakes emergencies, and their own battle scars.
Sylvie is still reeling from her divorce, while Antonio is still taking his sobriety day by day. The series will explore how two jaded adults who have taken hits in life still find hope, serve others, and maybe find love again with one another.
Hailey Upton & Jay Halstead – Trigger Effect

Easily one of the spinoffs with the juiciest potential, this one would reunite this couple a few years after Halstead abandoned Hailey and they divorced, and it would be ripe with tension.
It would follow Hailey as she works as part of a task force that hunts down fugitives across the country. However, what she doesn’t anticipate is her next assignment being her ex-husband and former partner.
While on his own assignment, Halstead becomes the “Fall Guy,” framed for a crime and goes on the run until he can clear his name, but he quickly learns that one of the people after him is his ex-wife.
It would serve as a conspiracy thriller that would reunite these former lovers under extreme circumstances despite broken trust, old wounds, hurt, and so much more.
The series could be a fun cat-and-mouse game that blurs the lines between allies and foes among a married couple with so much unspoken tension between them as a larger plot unfolds.
Violet & Carver – First Response: Mile High

There’s nothing more frustrating than an incomplete story, which is one of many reasons we at TV Fanatic are NOT thrilled about losing Sam Carver.
He has so much potential, is a great character, and his and Violet’s love story still hasn’t properly unfolded. But while Violet is still part of the series for now (as far as we know, goodness knows the One Chicago revolving door gives viewers whiplash), we can still envision what a spinoff would look like for these two.
Carver is seeking a fresh start and a chance to maintain his sobriety, and he plans to do that in Denver.
Despite the two of them expressing their feelings for one likely, they won’t be able to maintain the long-distance relationship.
But this spinoff would explore what it’s like if Violet follows her heart (and Carver) to Denver. It would take place a few months or a year after he left and has been settled, as Violet realizes that she cannot let her second chance at true love pass her by.
We’d follow Violet to Denver as she embarks on a journey of self-discovery and love, only things are complicated when she gets there, and the job she thought was waiting for her fell through, while her and Carver’s love story faces yet another unexpected obstacle that disrupts the fantasy of their instant happily ever after.
Carver learns that you can’t outrun your past, and wherever you go, your baggage may still be with you, and Violet will discover that love is always worth the fight — but sometimes the fight is challenging.
Robin Charles & Connor Rhodes – Twin Cities: Rhode to Recovery

Few One Chicago couples have endured the level of collective trauma that both Connor and Robin have individually and together.
Their chemistry was out of this world, and they would’ve had the most beautiful love story, but Robin faced health issues that often derailed what they had, and Connor never really recovered from that.
Robin left the hospital to relocate to Minneapolis, and as of her welcomed return during Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 21, Robin has been doing well. She seems happy and healthy, and as far as we know, she’s still in medicine in Minneapolis.
But we know nothing about what happened with Connor when he departed during Chicago Med Season 5 after the traumatic deaths of his father and ex-lover.
This spinoff would focus on Robin getting a job opportunity that she cannot turn down for an institute that focuses on mental health and trauma survivors, as well as clinical trials and research.
But it isn’t until after she’s accepted that she finds out that the person bankrolling this elite institution, doing so much good, is none other than Connor Rhodes.
Their reunion is complicated, with unresolved feelings still simmering between them, but Connor harbors a secret that changes everything for the pair.
Facing some challenges of his own, Robin will learn why Connor is really in Minneapolis, devoted to this institution, and she’ll find herself returning a favor — or finally realizing that when you love someone, you’re not a burden at all as she helps Connor on his own road to recovery as they simultaneously help others.
Trudy & Mouch – Off Duty

Even though both Mouch and Trudy are still active on One Chicago, they’re also both in their retirement years, and a great spinoff could take them away from their respective jobs and transition them into something more fun.
We could follow two work-oriented people as they retire together to spend their Golden Years relaxing and enjoying each other’s company.
There’s only one problem: neither of them actually knows how to relax. Off Duty would focus on the pair relocating outside the city to a rural area, only to get sucked into small town drama, mysteries, and solving crimes.
It’d be a comedic but cozy series that would take full advantage of this truly endearing and hilarious couple in the next stage in their life.
Boden & Donna – In Service

This spinoff would be such a heartfelt and warm series that would touch on family dynamics and drama endearingly.
It would follow Boden — tired and over the bureaucracy of navigating the political landscape and business of firefighting, as he and Donna turn their attention toward starting a foundation that would help troubled and at-risk youth.
Combining Donna’s experience as a teacher with Boden’s leadership and mentorship skills, it’d be a whole new exploration of how two community servants continue to serve the community and save lives, all while navigating their own family life.
With the vibes of This of Us and Friday Night Lights, it could be the must-see, underrated family type of drama that we need and are currently lacking on primetime.
Sadly, we don’t have a PR machine or a million-dollar budget — if we dd, we’d greenlight these projects ourselves! Nevertheless, we do have YOU and your support. Watch Chicago Med Online Watch Chicago Fire Online Watch Chicago PD Online
