'Alien: Earth' Is So Cohesive With 'Alien,' Despite the 46-Year Difference

Alien was released in 1979, and Alien: Earth was released in 2025, yet it takes place two years before Alien. Technology in the real world has advanced a lot since 1979, so how does someone make a prequel look and feel like the predecessor to an almost 50-year-old film? The answer lies in a variety of techniques, not limited to storytelling and plot lines. The overall feel of Alien: Earth fits into the zeitgeist of the first Alien film so well that it almost feels like the series was created in the late 1970s, directly after that first film. It also still feels like a not-so-distant future from the real world, even though what seemed futuristic in 1979 seems less futuristic now. The green sans-serif text is no longer common in the real world, but has become synonymous with the sci-fi genre, as has some of the art design used in Alien.
