‘Atomfall’ could be getting a sequel and tv show

The team behind Atomfall has said the survival game could be getting a sequel and a TV adaptation.
Atomfall is a brand new IP from Rebellion studios that launched earlier this year for PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Game Pass. “A nuclear disaster has left an area of Britain in tatters. Atomfall, a new survival-action game, will see you explore, scavenge, craft, barter and fight your way through beautifully recreated scenery in search of answers,” reads the official description.
When the game was released in March, it was reported more than 1.5 million people played it in its first week and last week, Rebellion head Jason Kingsley said that Atomfall was “immediately profitable”.
Now the studio are looking to the future. Speaking on The Game Business YouTube channel, Kingsley said Rebellion was going to “keep making games”.
“We’ve now got the challenge of massive success with Atomfall, what do we do in the future with that? We’ve got DLC coming up, but what do we do about sequels? Do we do spin-offs? We want to keep a balance between originals and new original things, and how do you do that when you’ve got three IPS,” he continued.
“We’re talking to various streamers about video content; about tv shows and movies. None of which are anywhere close to being announced but it’s interesting to see what happens there,” he added.
Speaking to NME earlier this year, Rebellion’s Head Of Design Ben Fisher said Atomfall was inspired by Fallout, but developers also looked at ‘60s classics such as Doctor Who, The Wicker Man and The Prisoner. “There was a lot of fear about losing your identity, the tension of fitting in and the conflict between tradition and modernity in those stories alongside a healthy dose of Cold War suspicion. It all influenced the mechanics of Atomfall,” he explained.
Rebellion also confirmed Atomfall’s Wicked Isle expansion will launch June 3. No story details about the DLC have been shared, but Rebellion have released a brief 18-second teaser clip that involves a boat.
In other news, Nintendo is set to reveal more Switch 2 games next month during a new Direct Presentation, according to reports.
