The trio released their ninth and latest studio album, ‘Will Of The People’, in 2022. Tonight (June 12), Matt Bellamy and co. will kick off a run of European tour dates – marking their first shows of 2025.
In recent weeks, the band have been sharing a series of cryptic posts on social media – seemingly pointing to their next era. Muse unveiled what appears to be a clip from an upcoming music video last night (June 11), along with the caption: “Back at it.”
The footage is soundtracked by a filtered and distorted snippet of an unknown track. However, the title ‘Unravelling’ is quickly displayed on screen in the closing seconds. Watch here:
A previous upload contains an electronic, synth-led instrumental with a comic book-style animation of someone riding a motorbike through a city. “Something’s coming…,” the group wrote alongside this post.
Captioning a new orange-hued image of the trio in silhouette, Muse said: “An insect trapped in amber.” The same phrase appeared next to a separate photo of bassist Chris Wolstenholme, with fans speculating that this could be lyrics to a new song.
Another picture of drummer Dominic Howard came with the mosquito and orange heart emojis – another possible hint at the themes of Muse’s new chapter. You can check out the posts below.
Fans are now speculating over the potential release of ‘Unravelling’ tomorrow (June 13), and whether the trio could debut any new material at their show in Helsinki, Finland tonight.
Their official social media pages currently link to a sign-up page to receive “the latest Muse news on albums, gigs, competitions and more”.
Muse are scheduled to play numerous European festivals this month and next. These include Mad Cool in Madrid and NOS Alive in Lisbon – where they recently replaced Kings Of Leon on the line-up – as well as Hellfest, Pinkpop and Open’er.
Back in February, bassist Wolstenholme opened up about the future of Muse, and suggested that the band were thinking about a new full-length album – which could be arriving next year.
“I think we’re gonna start work on the next record fairly soon,” he said, explaining that the group weren’t signed to a label at the time.
“I think for the last few albums we’ve been with Warner and we’ve extended after each album,” the musician continued. “We may do the same again; we may go with a new label, who knows.”
As for when fans could expect the next Muse LP, Wolstenholme revealed that they would be starting work “very, very soon, like in the next couple of months”. “I would imagine that 2026 will be a new album, barring any disasters,” he commented.
He also suggested that Muse could take longer to release new records in the future. “I don’t think we can be banging out new albums every two years like we used to,” he said, adding that the group needed the “opportunity to reset a little bit” between projects.
