BoA says she “doesnt know how much longer I’ll be able to keep performing”

K-pop singer BoA has shared her uncertainty about continuing on as musician since she was embroiled in controversy earlier this month.
On April 15, BoA shared a post on fan community platform Weverse where she opened up about having “gone through a difficult time not only professionally but also personally”.
The post came shortly after she was faced with backlash for controversial remarks she made during a livestream while inebriated. “Still, I believed that I had been doing my best in every way I could,” she added, per Korea JoongAng Daily.
“But I’ve started to think that my ways of pushing forward may have made some people uncomfortable. I used to believe that if I just worked hard and did what I was told, things would get better. But the world has changed, I’ve changed, and all those changes hit me at once. I kept asking myself over and over, ‘Is this really the place I’m meant to be?’”
Despite the challenges, BoA maintained that she hadn’t been able to let go of her music career because of how much it means to her. “The reason I couldn’t give up music is that without it, it feels like my entire life would fall apart,” she said. At the same time, she felt “uncertain” about when she would be able to fully return.
“I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to keep performing,” BoA continued. “But I believe there is still a passionate potential burning in our hearts. I want to bring that energy out, together with you.”
Late last year, BoA embarked on her ‘One’s Own’ tour of Asia, which began with a two-night show in Seoul’s Olympic Handball Gymnasium. The brief tour saw her perform in Jakarta, Singapore and Taipei.
