Box Office Round-Up: DCU's 'Superman' Takes Off Against 'Jurassic World Rebirth'
It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no… it’s James Gunn’s hope-filled Superman, which has finally taken flight in theaters. The first big-screen entry in the DCU won over both fans and critics alike with its refreshingly bold Silver Age take on the beloved character, and, as a result, the new Man of Steel movie made an estimated $122 million domestically over its opening weekend at the box office. That’s the best debut for a comic book adaptation in 2025, and Superman soared to a worldwide total of $217 million against a production budget of $225 million. However, it must still be disconcerting for the heads of DC Studios that even though Superman is succeeding financially, Gunn’s opus wouldn’t have cracked the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Top 10 opening weekends — not even close.
