'Don't Log Off' Review: COVID-era Screenlife Thriller Is a Digital Dud

"Screenlife" movies are a niche cinematic experience, a bold and enticing extension of the found-footage subgenre where the narrative unfolds on a digital desktop that doubles the silver screen. Films like Searching (2018) and Missing (2023) were gripping thanks to their genuinely immersive feel, thrusting audiences into the protagonists' harrowing journeys through their phones and computer screens. As with Ari Aster's latest film Eddington, the new screenlife horror film Don't Log Off is set during the COVD-19 era, when digital screens were basically all we had for entertainment during lockdown.
