GloRilla arrested for drug possession after police respond to burglary call at her home

GloRilla has been arrested for drug possession following a burglary investigation at her home.

The rapper, real name Gloria Woods, has been released from Forsyth County Jail in Georgia on a $22,260 (£16,500) bond after voluntarily turning herself in on charges of felony drug possession.

She was reportedly placed under arrest on Monday (July 22), after local authorities allegedly discovered “a significant amount of marijuana” in the master bedroom of her home while responding to reports of a burglary at the residence on Saturday (July 20), according to Rolling Stone.

GloRilla was not at home at the time of the incident, where three suspects allegedly entered the home and began to steal items.

“An armed occupant fired at the intruders. The suspects fled the scene, and it does not appear that any of them were struck,” the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office shared in a statement..

Authorities were unable to locate the suspects, but initiated an investigation at the location “due to the nature of the incident involving a burglary and shots fired.” It was during this investigation that the Lanier Regional Drug Task Force was called in to respond to the “strong odor consistent with illegal narcotics” reported by officers on the scene.

“Based on information obtained during the initial investigation, Task Force agents secured a search warrant for the home,” the statement continued. “A significant amount of marijuana was discovered in plain view inside the master bedroom closet. The homeowner, Ms. Gloria Woods, who was not present during the burglary, was subsequently charged with Felony Possession of Marijuana and Possession of schedule one controlled substance.”

Yesterday (July 24) GloRilla took to X/Twitter to comment on the incident, saying: “CRAZY My House got Home Invaded Saturday While I was in Indianapolis performing for the WNBA all star game,” she wrote to X on Thursday (July 24). “Instead of Focusing on finding the Suspects , they focus on some cannabis.”

She continued: “1. So no I wasn’t busted 2. My house got robbed 3. I wasn’t home Long story short my house gets home invaded and Im the only one that gets arrested. So that’s tea.”

Her attorney, Drew Findling, also criticised the police in a statement to Billboard, calling the arrest “a disturbing window into how warped law enforcement priorities have become.”

He added: “This is our tax dollars at work, absolutely unbelievable.”

The investigation into the burglary that led to the arrest is ongoing. “The homeowner is a victim of a serious crime, and we are committed to bringing the suspects to justice,” Sheriff Ron Freeman explained.

Detectives were able to recover “physical and trace forensic evidence” they believe is connected to the suspects. “At the same time,” Freeman added: “We must continue to uphold and enforce the law in all aspects of this case.”
