Hideo Kojima planning new “action espionage” game for 2030

Hideo Kojima has revealed his new “action espionage” game Physint won’t be released until 2030 at the earliest.
Kojima is currently gearing up to release the long-awaited sequel to his critically acclaimed 2019 dystopian adventure game Death Stranding. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach will launch June 26, 2025 while a Hollywood adaptation is due to come out some time in 2027.
Last week, Kojima revealed he could make “endless” Death Stranding sequels but would rather hand over the franchise to someone else.
He has confirmed work on two new titles though. Kojima is currently working on horror game OD alongside Jordan Peele and “action espionage” title Physint. Neither game currently has a release date but in a new interview, Kojima revealed Physint might not be released until 2030.
Speaking to Le Film (and translated by ResetEra users) Kojima was asked if he’d like to direct a film. “Oh yes! I’ve had so many offers since I left Konami, with serious conditions to develop games in my independent studio,” he explained. “Besides Death Stranding 2, there’s also Physint in development. That will take me another five or six years. But maybe after that, I could finally decide to take on a film. I grew up with cinema. Directing would be, in a way, a tribute to it. Also, I’m getting older, and I’d prefer to do it while I’m still young!”
Physint was first announced back in 2024. “It is a completely new ‘action espionage’ for the next-generation. It will be created using cutting-edge technology and the best talents from around the world, both from film and video games. Of course this is an interactive ‘game’, but the look, story, theme, cast, acting, fashion, sound, etc are all at the next level of ‘digital entertainment’ that could be called a ‘movie’,” Kojima explained.

Speaking at a recent panel for Death Stranding 2 (via Eurogamer), Kojima revealed that Physint was inspired by his beloved Metal Gear series. “When I became sick during the pandemic, I realised that a lot of people wanted me to make something like Metal Gear. That’s when I had the idea for a new espionage game. I reflected, and thought the idea was good. I took it to Sony and they were incredibly supportive. We explored many options, and we agreed on doing Physint.”
At the start of 2025, Kojima admitted that he didn’t know how much longer he’d be making games for. “At this age, I can’t help but think about how much longer I’ll be able to stay ‘creative’,” the 61-year-old wrote on social media.
“I want to keep going for the rest of my life, but is it 10 more years? 20? Every day feels like I’m racing against the clock. Even now, at 87, Ridley Scott is still active. And back when he was past 60 – my current stage in life – he created the masterpiece Gladiator.”
In other news, the creators of HBO’s The Last Of Us have confirmed the show will need a fourth season – and gaming fans aren’t happy.
