Iconic arcade horror game ‘House Of The Dead 2’ is coming to Nintendo Switch

A remastered version of iconic arcade horror game House Of The Dead 2 is coming to PC and Nintendo Switch later this year.
Originally released in 1998, arcade horror House Of The Dead 2 was later made available for Dreamcast, Wii and the original Xbox. In the game, players take control of a highly-trained soldier and investigate a zombie outbreak in Italy, while trying to protect civilians from hordes of the undead. The fan-favourite game spawned a number of sequels, spin-offs and movie adaptations.
Now a new remastered version is set for release later this year.
The House Of The Dead 2: Remake will launch August for Nintendo Switch and PC, via Steam and GOG. It’s been reported that a PlayStation and Xbox version of the game will follow at a later date.
The remake will cost £24.99 and feature updated graphics, a remastered soundtrack and multiple endings while remaining “faithful” to the original game. “Take on the lone role of a secret agent as James or Gary, or team up in co-op mode to neutralise the dangerous creatures standing in your way,” reads the official description.
“In February 2000, a small city was suddenly overrun by hostile creatures. Two AMS agents, James Taylor and Gary Stewart, were sent to investigate. Upon arrival, they noticed that the situation resembled the Curien Mansion incident from 1998. Determined to uncover the source of the infestation, they began shooting their way through hordes of creatures.”
As well as the classic campaign, the remake of House Of The Dead 2 will feature ‘Boss Mode’, which allows you to take on the game’s bosses as fast as you can. There will also be a ‘Training Mode’ that allows you to hone your skills before deploying on a mission.
However fans are apprehensive about the remake after a 2022 re-release of the original House Of The Dead was met with “mixed” reviews. “I was genuinely so disappointed. House Of The Dead is such a fun time, and it’s not like it’s a massive game that needed an insane amount of work – they were just so damn lazy,” one fan wrote on Reddit.
“I tried the first game on Switch and the control was so awful I gave up after a few tries. Constantly re-calibrating and always missing what I thought were landed shots. I guess I’ll just let my nostalgia live on in my mind instead…” added another.
In other news, Final Fantasy 14 boss Naoki Yoshida has apologised for a “decline” in the quality of the game, telling fans the team wants to make things better.
