David Corenswet's first outing as Clark Kent has impressed fans and critics. So well-received is Superman that it has even reversed some brutal trends, outperforming DC's recent output, but that's not saying much. In fact, that's the overpowering subtext that underpins this film, and why everyone in the press is obsessing over this film's box office haul. It could predict the future of the superhero genre, as well as DC Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery's entire cinematic strategy. WB-Discovery and James Gunn desperately needed the updated Superman to provide a windfall. Has it?
