Julian Glander on Ducks, Capitalism, and Animation in 'Boys Go to Jupiter'

Quirkily shot and colorfully animated, watching director Julian Glander's film Boys Go to Jupiter feels like watching a minor miracle unfold. It focuses on Floridian Billy 5000 (Jack Corbett), who passes the days between Christmas and New Year's by either shoplifting, beatboxing, or causing adolescent mischief. Billy works for Grubster, a food delivery app, and he hopes, as his name suggests, to make $5000 by New Year's Eve. The goal gives him something to work towards, which helps anchor him in his waywardness. Once he meets an extraterrestrial, an alien he affectionately names Donut, their interactions remind him that there are just some things in life that money can't buy.
