Karol G to headline halftime show for first NFL game on YouTube

Karol G has been announced as the headline act for the halftime show of YouTube’s first ever broadcast of an NFL game.

On September 5, the Kansas City Chiefs will play the Los Angeles Chargers at the Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil, the first time a live NFL broadcast will air exclusively on YouTube.

It will also be the first NFL game to take place in South America, and Colombian reggaeton star Karol G will play the halftime show. Kamasi Washington will perform the US national anthem at the game, while Brazilian artist Ana Castela will sing the Brazilian anthem.

Karol G has said: “I’m so excited to be part of YouTube’s first-ever NFL live broadcast, it’s truly an honor and a moment I’m so proud to be part of.”

“I’ve watched many NFL halftime shows over the years and now having this opportunity to bring my music to this global stage means the world to me,” she added. “I can’t wait to celebrate with everyone in São Paulo and fans all around the world.”

The game will air for free on the website, with kick-off expected at 8pm ET (1am BST).

Angela Courtin, vice president of connected TV and creative studio marketing at YouTube, has said: “This broadcast is a landmark moment in our partnership with the NFL, where the worlds of football, music and creators will powerfully collide.”

Karol G announced back in December that she would be teaming up with Netflix to release a documentary spanning her life and career, with Emmy-winning director Cristina Costantini set to helm it.

“A story born from dreams that seemed impossible, fueled by unwavering faith,” Karol teased. “A relentless journey that defied all odds. My life, my work, my truth and the powerful connection I share with you all. My dream came true.”

She made history in 2023 with her fourth album ‘Mañana Será Bonito’ which became the first ever all-Spanish album by a female artist to land the Number One spot on the Billboard 200 chart. She also made history as the first-ever Latin female artist to headline Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago.
