Marvel fans are writing off new mobile game as “trash”

Marvel Mystic Mayhem launched today (June 26) but fans are already writing off the new mobile game as “trash”.
Marvel’s had a lot of success in recent years with video games. Mobile title Marvel Snap was a viral hit and team shooter Marvel Rivals was praised by fans when it was released at the end of last year and still has a dedicated playerbase.
However the latest superhero game has got off to a rocky start. Marvel Mystic Mayhem is a team-based tactical role-playing game that sees players assemble a gang of “iconic” heroes and villains. “As Nightmare unearths the darkest dreams of the waking, reality morphs to reflect their deepest fears! Battle the Lord Of Dreams as he invades the minds of iconic heroes and villains, awakening their inner fears to destroy the waking world,” reads the game’s description.
“Assemble your team of legendary characters to survive and save the world! Collect and upgrade iconic characters, master battle strategies and use heroic ultimates, challenge epic bosses, and explore the Marvel world,” it continues.
After an early access period, Marvel Mystic Mayhem officially launched earlier today but fans aren’t impressed with the game. “The honeymoon period of this game is ridiculously short, and stingy. After one hour, there’s nothing else I can do in the game,” wrote one fan. “The art style goes super hard but after playing it for several hours, it is just boring,” added another. “The game is trash,” wrote a third.
Others have complained about the limited choice of characters, the pay-to-play mechanics around replenishing stamina and the terrible pull rates for higher-powered and recognisable characters. Developers NetEase have also been criticised for not featuring any gameplay footage in the launch trailer.
NetEase has confirmed The Fantastic Four’s Human Torch, Invisible Woman, Thing and Mr Fantastic will be joining Marvel Mystic Mayhem next month as part of the game’s first post-launch update. New players can also unlock Moon Girl, Devil Dinosaur and Storm by completing daily challenges.
In other news, CHVRCHES have confirmed they make a cameo appearance in Death Stranding 2: On The Beach after contributing to the soundtrack of the original.
