Muse have replaced Kings Of Leon on the line-up for Mad Cool 2025.

The Spanish festival is set to return to Villaverde, Madrid this summer for its eighth edition. It will be running across July 10, 11 and 12, featuring the likes of Olivia Rodrigo, Noah Kahan, Nine Inch Nails, Iggy Pop, Alanis Morrisette, Weezer (who will be performing in Madrid for the first time in 20 years), Thirty Second to Mars, Gracie Abrams, St. Vincent, Justice, Bloc Party, Kaiser Chiefs, The Wombats, Jet and Glass Animals.

Initially, Kings Of Leon were scheduled to be the headliners for Thursday (July 10), and booked in following the release of their ninth studio album, ‘Can We Please Have Fun’, which was shared last May. However, yesterday (May 28) saw frontman Caleb Followill make the announcement that the band would be pulling out of the slot – as well as many others – due to injury.

This, he explained, was a recent “freak accident” that saw him break his foot and be forced to undergo emergency surgery. As well as the slot at Mad Cool, other scrapped gigs included two huge UK shows and other stops at festivals around Europe.

Now, less than 24 hours after the news broke, Mad Cool has confirmed that Muse will be taking over the slot, and set to headline the first day of the 2025 edition.

It follows Matt Bellamy and co. performing at the festival back in 2022, and will mark an extension to their European tour. It also marks their only performance scheduled for Spain this year.

“Renowned worldwide for their electrifying live shows and state-of-the-art production, Matt Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard promise a performance not to be missed,” reads a new statement from Mad Cool. “Their return also offers fans a chance to relive the energy and spectacle of their 2022 set: a performance that has since become part of the festival’s legacy.”

Their slot at Mad Cool 2022 saw them join the bill alongside the likes of Metallica, Deftones, Imagine Dragons, Twenty One Pilots, Placebo, Foals and Fever 333.

In a round-up of their Top Five moments on the night, NME praised the band for their ability to keep the set captivating and politically charged. “Arriving on stage in the hoods and metallic mirror masks of the rebel militia from their recent music videos, they make good on the title of their new album ‘The Will Of The People’ in giving the thousands gathered at the Mad Cool main stage exactly what they want, all while sticking it to the man,” it read.
