‘Star Wars: Battlefront 3’ isn’t happening despite fan campaign

It looks like the long-awaited Star Wars: Battlefront 3 won’t be happening at EA, despite a fan-campaign to get it made.

The first Star Wars: Battlefront game was released in 2004 and spawned a number of sequels and spin-offs, all developed by Pandemic Studios for LucasArts. Following Disney’s acquisition of LucasArts, the series was rebooted in 2015 with Star Wars: Battlefront, created by EA’s DICE Studios. A sequel followed in 2017.
According to reports, a third Battlefront game was pitched to DICE but they turned it down due to “licensing costs”
However, over the past week, fans have been returning to Star Wars: Battlefront 2 in an attempt to show EA that the demand for a new game is there. The resurgence in popularity has also seen a number of developers speak out about a potential third game.
“If Battlefront 3 ever happens, I’d love to return,” said lean animator Harvey Newman. “The team was excellent, and the community feedback loop was the best I’ve seen in my career. So many ideas left on the table! I genuinely hope we can find a way to make Battlefront 3 happen someday.”
The replies and love this tweet is getting really remind me how incredible this community was—and still is! You guys are the absolute best. I genuinely hope we can find a way to make #Battlefront3 happen someday.

According to a new update from EA though, it doesn’t look like there are any plans for a Star Wars: Battlefront 3.
As well as confirming that their single-player, open-world Black Panther game had been scrapped, EA Entertainment president Laura Miele revealed that the company was only focusing on a handful of key IPs (Battlefield, The Sims, Skate and Apex Legends) going forward, with no mention of Battlefront.
EA isn’t going to make Star Wars: Battlefront 3.
According to IGN, an internal email revealed more layoffs—and that EA is now focused only on Battlefield, The Sims, Skate, and Apex Legends.

Last year, CEO Andrew Wilson announced the company would be “moving away from development of future licensed IP that we do not believe will be successful in our changing industry.”
A third Star Wars: Jedi game is currently in development but beyond that, EA doesn’t have any confirmed Star Wars projects in the works.
In other news, Elden Ring fans have their doubts about the newly-confirmed movie adaptation, which will be written and directed by Alex Garland.
“Love Alex Garland. Love Elden Ring. Have no idea how this can work. FromSoft make purposefully obtuse non-narrative centric games that reward people digging for theme and lore. How in the fuck does this translate to a strictly visual medium except as a hyper niche arthouse production,” asked one fan.
