Taylor Swift has confirmed what her new album, ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’, is about.

Earlier this week, Swift announced her highly anticipated 12th studio album ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’. She’s also confirmed the album’s release date, shared its tracklist and announced the producers who worked on the record with her.

The album was revealed in detail on her first-ever appearance on the New Heights podcast, hosted by her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his brother Jason.

Speaking on the full podcast episode, Swift shared that the album will be about her life behind the scenes of her record-breaking Eras Tour.

Explaining the meaning behind the album cover, which is designed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot and features Swift floating in water, she said: “My day ends in a bathtub, not usually in a bedazzled dress… I wanted to glamorise all the aspects of how the tour felt.

“I wanted to have an offstage moment as the main album cover because the album isn’t really about what happened onstage, but what happened offstage,” she said.

Swift went on to say that the LP will focus on: “What was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant. It just comes from like the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life.

“And so that effervescence has come through on this record. And like, as you said, bangers.”

Swift explained that the goal of the album was “melodies that were so infectious that you’re almost angry at it” and also lyrics that “are as vivid, crisp, focused, and completely intentional.”

Swift also shared that the upcoming record will differ from her previous album – 2024’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ – in that it will not come with additional tracks.

In April last year, Swift released ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ as a 16-track record, only to surprise-release an extended version just hours after the original album dropped. She would later describe ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ as a double album in a letter to fans – it spanned a total of 31 songs.

Swift has since unveiled four limited-edition deluxe variations of ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ on CD – all of which contain special artwork, booklets, photocards and more. The tracklisting remains unchanged at only 12 songs. You can check out all four variations and place your orders here.

Prior to announcing the album, Swift launched a cryptic countdown clock on her website that came to an end at 12:12am ET on Tuesday (August 12). Once the countdown timer ended, her site was updated with pre-orders for the album, and clips of her first-ever appearance on her boyfriend’s podcast New Heights were shared across social media, where she unveiled the title of the record.

Elsewhere on the podcast, Swift recalled the emotional moment she reclaimed her master recordings, saying: “Since I was a teenager, I’ve been saving up money to buy my music back.”
