‘The White Lotus’ star campaigning for lead role in ‘American Psycho’ remake: “I would love nothing more”

Patrick Schwarzenegger has expressed his interest in starring in the upcoming American Psycho remake.
A remake of the iconic 2000 film American Psycho was first announced in October with Challengers director Luca Guadagnino at the helm. While it was reported in late December that Elvis and Dune Part Two star Austin Butler had been cast in the role, discussions are seemingly still up in the air for who would take on the role of the charismatic Patrick Bateman.
One actor – whose name has come up in fan castings – has taken to social media to voice his interest in the role: Patrick Schwarzenegger. Best known for his recent role in The White Lotus season three and Gen V – a spin-off of The Boys before that – Schwarzenegger last week responded to a fan on X (formerly Twitter) about the role.
On Thursday (May 1), a fan wrote on X: “Patrick Schwarzenegger, I’ve found your breakout role.” In response, the son of Arnold Schwarzenegger wrote back: “I’d love nothing more ;)”

This isn’t the first time Schwarzenegger has thrown his hat in the ring for the role. Back when the remake was first announced in October, Patrick wrote on X: “My dream”.
Besides Schwarzenegger and Austin Butler, other names that have come up in fan-castings are Robert Pattinson, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Timothée Chalamet, Jacob Elordi, Glen Powell and Dev Patel.
The original film starred Christian Bale as Patrick Batman, a mentally unstable Manhattan-based banker who lives a second life as a gruesome serial killer. In both the film and novel, it’s not made entirely clear if Bateman is actually perpetrating the acts of horrific violence, or if they are a figment of his imagination, and this has been the subject of debate among fans for decades.
Late last month, Matt Ross, who co-starred with Bale in the 2000 film shared his thoughts on the remake: “On one hand, I am always sad about remakes. I personally have been offered them in the past as a director, and I’ve been very reticent to engage in that because it always feels like just mercenary capitalism and nothing else.”
“I think they have their work cut out for them, for no other reason than Christian’s performance is exceptional,” Ross stated.
