The moment took place towards the end of Rodrigo’s headline set at the Chicago festival last night (August 1).
It marked a full circle moment for the ‘Vampire’ singer, who told the crowd that Weezer had headlined the first show she attended.
Rivers Cuomo and the rest of the band then joined her onstage for two of their biggest tracks – ‘Buddy Holly‘ and ‘Say It Ain’t So.’ Rodrigo joined, playing guitar and harmonising alongside Cuomo. Check it out below.

It’s not the first surprise guest Rodrigo has brought out this summer. In June, during her headline slot at Governors Ball, she brought out David Byrne for a rendition of Talking Heads‘ 1983 hit ‘Burning Down the House’.
Then, she surprised fans at her BST Hyde Park headline gig by bringing out Ed Sheeran to perform ‘The A Team’.
Days later, it was The Cure frontman Robert Smith who appeared onstage with Rodrigo at Glastonbury to perform the band’s classic tracks ‘Friday I’m In Love’ and ‘Just Like Heaven’.
Following the team-up, Rodrigo posted photos including her hanging out with Smith backstage and doing shots with him, as well as a picture of her going to bed wearing a Cure t-shirt.
Rodrigo’s set at Glastonbury 2025 was given a four-star review from NME, and described as one that will “stand the test of time”.
“The flawless vocals and choreography sometimes work to make the set feel a little too perfect and polished, with seldom a moment for the singer to take a break from the carousel of hits to really connect with the eager fans amassed. That being said, there is no doubt about the commitment that Rodrigo has put into this set,” it read.
The review added: “Introducing him as “probably the greatest songwriter to come out of England”, Robert Smith took to the stage for unforgettable duets of The Cure classics ‘Friday I’m In Love’ and ‘Just Like Heaven’. It was electric, and closing Glasto in style is something the godfather of goth knows plenty about.”
As for Weezer, they’re currently working on a new film, which was announced by the band during their appearance at this year’s Coachella, with Cuomo telling the crowd: “We’ve been busy making the Weezer movie back in LA the last couple weeks”.
Journalist Jeff Sneider revealed that the movie would be a documentary, with Keanu Reeves playing the villain, and pitched as a mix of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.
Despite speculation from fans, it was confirmed that Jack Black will not be involved in the film.
