Director Rian Johnson has shared the first teaser trailer for the new Knives Out film Wake Up Dead Man – watch below.

During an appearance at a fan event for Netflix’s Tudum on Saturday (May 31), Johnson, who wrote, produced and directed both Knives Out (2019) and sequel Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022), confirmed that the third entry in the series will hit Netflix on December 12, 2025.

He also unveiled the first teaser of the new film – a one-minute preview that sees Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc apparently investigating a murder relating to Christian religious rituals. Watch the clip, which includes Ralph Stanley’s haunting bluegrass track ‘O Death’, here:

As well as Craig, Wake Up Dead Man boasts a huge cast, including Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack and Thomas Haden Church.

Johnson first shared a snap from the film on social media in January, showing a resplendently dressed Craig alongside O’Connor in a church. “A first look at Daniel Craig and Josh O’Connor in the next Benoit Blanc mystery, Wake Up Dead Man,” Johnson wrote. “Working on it, much more to come!”

Last November, Craig said he hoped Netflix would give Wake Up Dead Man an extensive cinematic release. Speaking to Variety, when asked if he wished for Wake Up Dead Man to play in cinemas for longer than its predecessors, Craig responded: “You know I do.”

Glass Onion, the most recent Knives Out instalment, did receive a theatrical release – but was only available on the big screen for a week before streaming exclusively on Netflix.

Craig told Variety: “Hopefully, Netflix will push it out a bit, and people will get to see it. The people I speak to — the fans, I suppose — all they want to do is take their families and go see it at the cinemas. That’s all they want to do. Hopefully we can give them that experience.”

NME awarded Glass Onion four stars, writing: “Perhaps the best way to absorb Glass Onion is to hit pause every 20 minutes so everyone can have a go at guessing who the culprit is. Even without that streaming luxury though, the film zigs and zags its way around the plot in gripping fashion. Somehow, there’s also room to fit in some spiky satire (including one speech that roasts Johnson’s own disruption of the Star Wars saga).”
