Why 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' Can't Save the MCU
Just two weeks after Superman flew into theaters and restored hope in the hearts of DC fans and studio executives, The Fantastic Four: First Steps arrives at multiplexes with similarly heavy expectations upon its shoulders. It’s no secret that the bloom is off the rose of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Regardless of how good the films actually are, audiences just don’t care about the MCU like they used to. The abysmal Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania made more than a very solid Thunderbolts*, but both grossed only about a sixth of what Avengers: Endgame hauled in, and neither factored much into the cultural conversation.
