Here is how it works and what you can do by making the most of it:
Madness and the Inner Demon mechanics are a progressive debuff/buff that drastically affects gameplay. As you die or kill a human enemy, you gain Madness as the Feathering disease starts to corrupt you. The more madness you have, the more gameplay and Wuchang Fallen Feathers‘ systems change.
At 50% Madness, Wuchang’s eyes turn red, and the buffs/weapon effects you have related to madness start to come into effect. You also lose more Red Mercury with each death. This is increased even more once you reach 90% madness. At the same threshold, you will also take more damage and deal more damage.
This damage taken and damage dealt, as well as Red Mercury lost upon death, is increased even more once you reach 100% madness. At this threshold, you also unlock your Inner Demon. This summons a creature that will spawn on top of you or near you after you respawn and challenge you to a fight.
Your Inner Demon is an extremely challenging foe with a lot of health and high-damage output. Killing them will get you all your Red Mercury back and reset your madness. They will also drop some exclusive, valuable items.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is out now and available on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. The game is currently sitting at a 75 on Metacritic, although that is made up of a wide range of scores from extremely positive to negative ones. There are significant performance issues you should be aware of if you are playing on PC.
