Wunderhorse live at Glastonbury 2025: their purple patch continues in style

Right now, Wunderhorse are in a purple patch. Their second album ‘Midas’ has sent their star rising even higher than debut ‘Cub’, with critical acclaim and their biggest shows to date selling out months in advance. When they take to The Park stage at Glastonbury 2025 tonight (June 27), there’s a palpable sense of anticipation in the sizeable audience that’s trekked up the hill to see them.

The London band meet those high expectations head-on with a set that’s searing and masterful, showcasing the best of their discography so far and what makes them such a vital act. Whether commanding huge sing-alongs to the likes of ‘Purple’ or delivering raspy, urgent vocals on ‘Leader Of The Pack’, frontman Jacob Slater is a compelling figure to watch, ably assisted throughout by his bandmates.

It’s the second half of the set, though, where Wunderhorse really kick things up a gear. ‘The Rope’ is greeted by green flares set off in the audience, while the opening notes of ‘Teal’ elicit a roar from the crowd and, in response, a cheeky grin from Slater. ‘Rain’ is a visceral masterpiece, the band flawless and tight as Slater clambers onto Jamie Staples’ drum riser before returning to his mic to deliver the song’s final lines, switching between a hushed whisper and electric howls.

For the most part, Wunderhorse’s Glastonbury performance is a triumph that continues their great run in style. Sound bleeds from other stages occasionally hinder the performance, though, and a chatty audience dulls the atmosphere that the band’s presence and energy creates.

“Glastonbury, thank you so much for coming out,” Slater tells the crowd before the set wraps with ‘July’. “This means the world to us.” They put their all into the finale, the singer at his most expressive as he gives his rawest performance of the night for a song that packs huge emotional heft. If they remain on this kind of form, Wunderhorse’s purple patch should continue for a long time to come.
