'Y2K' Deserved Better Than Its 42% Rotten Tomatoes Score, and Max Viewers Agree
On paper, Y2Kprobably seemed like a can't-miss project. Directed by a Saturday Night Live vet (Kyle Mooney), starring one of the biggest up-and-coming stars in the business (Rachel Zegler), and oozing with millennial nostalgia, it's no wonder A24 picked it up for distribution. Unfortunately, the end result didn't live up to expectations, grossing only $4.4 million against a $15 million budget, and topping out at 42% on Rotten Tomatoes. A24 had been on a hot streak for a while, but suddenly it had a flop on its hands.
