A "Scream Queen" used to refer to the actor who played the final girl standing alone at the end of classic horror movies, the "nice" girl who found the strength to survive. Iconic scream queens include Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween, Heather Langenkamp in A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Neve Campbell in Scream. Over the last decade or so, however, the term "scream queen" has evolved, referring to actors who appear in horror movies throughout their careers, often but not always starring as the hero. The spin-off term "scream king" has also been coined for the same purpose.
