Did True Love Prevail Over Destiny on Providence Falls: Thief of Fate?

Did True Love Prevail Over Destiny on Providence Falls: Thief of Fate?

While I initially longed for an entire series, the Providence Falls film trilogy exceeded my expectations.

It featured the heart of Jude Deveraux and Tara Sheets’ novels, while adapting them to the Hallmark Channel’s audience, with more romance and a greater emphasis on the angel’s role.

Lives were at stake at the end of Providence Falls: An Impossible Promise, which only increased the pressure to solve the murder mystery and let the good side win.

True motives and heart’s desires were examined during Providence Falls: Thief of Fate as Cora and Liam tried to fight their feelings for each other, while Bael’s evil intentions became clear.

Join us on this final journey as we discuss if good conquered evil and if true love prevailed over destiny.

Was Magnus an Evil Pawn in Bael’s Plan?

While we learned that Magnus was not officially working for Bael, Bael still relished messing with Liam’s mind, and there was no better way to do that than to represent Magnus.

I despised how Magnus and Bael portrayed Cora as a hysterical, scorned woman, who discredited Magnus about the stolen $500,000.

Since, the Road Riders hadn’t officially filed a report, they had to release him, or Magnus threatened to launch a complaint against Cora.

Boyd seemed overally eager to keep things quiet, though he did tell his detectives to find hard evidence.

He should have known Liam and Cora can do anything if they put their minds to it, including beating evil forces.

There Was a Reason Liam and Suzette Related to Each Other

Cora was right when she teased that Liam and Suzette thought like criminals. Who knew that Suzette used to be a cat burglar and made a deal with Bael?

It explained why she wasn’t shocked by Liam’s predicament and understood why he pushed for a second chance.

The two of them were my favorite platonic pairing in the trilogy. They vibed so well.

I loved how Suzette wanted to help Liam trap Magnus, and her confident flirting skills worked again.

It was almost a slam dunk until Finn recognized her, but he probably saved them from Magnus’s clutches.

Suzette and Liam provided many humorous antics since they either saved the day or needed saving, narrowly escaping trouble. But they were a dynamic duo.

Could These Couples Rewrite the Stars?

While Providence Falls focuses on redemption and reincarnation, the film also includes time travel, and the angels were convinced Cora wasn’t supposed to remember her past.

Naturally, Liam and Cora weren’t the type to follow the rules, as she kept dreaming about their past. I admired how she tried to get him to open up with a romantic Italian dinner.

It was so angsty because there was nothing Liam wanted more than that, but he loved her more now and wouldn’t risk her life or not fulfilling her destiny.

It became more challenging to keep up that facade when Cora confronted him, wanting information about her necklace, saying she learned it was from 200 years ago.

Cora hated being lied to and asked what happened to the man who promised he’d be there no matter which path she chose.

That was the deciding factor, though Cora hated hearing the angels refer to them as an errant pairing since she loved him.

While they weren’t running from the law, it felt like they were on borrowed time as they gazed at the stars and each other.

Liam wasn’t who the angels thought Cora should be with. Could Agon change their mind?

While Liam and Cora seemed like star-crossed lovers, Suzette and Finn appeared more like close friends with romantic undertones.

Felicia Simone and Evan Roderick exhibited great chemistry, and that showed on-screen.

They both understood the theme of second chances and forgiveness since Suzette comforted Finn after Cora deserted him at the bar.

Cora was a wonderful person, but had difficulty seeing the grey and believed in following the rules and honesty. That came from being a police chief’s daughter and heavy expectations.

While technically, Suzette and Finn were on opposite sides, they were naturally drawn to each other.

Suzette didn’t want to become attracted to him while keeping him from Cora, but you can’t stop feelings.

You could tell she felt burdened with guilt because she routinely pulled away as they became closer, and she was embarrassed that Finn caught her and Liam tapping into Magnus’s phone.

However, Finn admired Suzette’s confidence, and he wasn’t nearly as enamored with Cora as he was in the books.

While he explored transferring to San Diego, he was more focused on whisking Suzette there for a romantic date.

Such a romantic gentleman, but that was a spicy kiss.

Boyd’s Actions Come to Light, Crushing Liam

Were you shocked that Boyd was behind all these crimes?

Avid book fans may have suspected him, but my radar only went up when he never sent a ride for Liam to investigate the other Brady properties at the end of Providence Falls: The Impossible Promise.

It seemed like he often pushed Cora off the case’s trail, but no one expected he’d directly commit a crime., though no one trusted Boyd either.

It crushed Liam when they found Meredith stashed at Magnus’s old lakehouse and Cora realized how scared she seemed of Boyd.

Liam wanted to believe he and Boyd were old friends until he remembered Boyd ripping off Cora’s necklace her cold, dead body. Then, he realized his old acquaintance was still greedy.

Finn getting involved was dangerous, but predictable. Like Liam, Finn longed for justice, even if Liam and Suzette got the info illegally.

He should not have gone to the park alone, and letting Boyd know Finn was there was just detrimental. Finn likely saw Magnus and Boyd argue and became collateral damage.

While Liam may not have cared about Finn in the 1800s, he wouldn’t give up until he save Finn now, showing how he and Boyd were night and day.

That fight scene between Boyd, Liam, and Finn was beautifully choreographed. The Hallmark Channel does not include many action scenes, but this kept us on the edge of our seats.

Sometimes Happily Ever After Isn’t Just For Fairy Tales

Most Hallmark films end with the couple reuniting, and I was relieved that Providence Falls followed that trend.

While it wasn’t as cheesy as some Hallmark movies, Providence Falls: Thief of Fate featured many fairy tale references. There were some iconic references to Aladdin and Lady and the Tramp, almost implying that true love would win.

(Reckless Pictures/Hallmark Media)

I was almost afraid to hope when Cora told Liam he couldn’t steal what wants to be taken, meaning her heart. That quote mirrors an iconic scene between Regina and Robin on Once Upon a Time, as they fell in love.

In the books, it wasn’t that simple. Both Finn and Liam were in danger, and Liam was granted another chance for sacrificing himself, but Finn didn’t make it.

This time, Agon’s faith in Liam and Cora’s heartfelt plea to Gabriel swayed the angels to allow all of them to have a second chance at love.

Hopefully, this alternative ending pleased the fans. Cora and Liam fulfilled her destiny of opening more branches of Second Chances to help other people.

Suzette and Finn ended up together, and Cora forgave her, understanding that she was in a similar situation to Liam’s.

Sometimes, it’s possible to rewrite your destiny when you find the right person by your side.

I fell in love with these characters, and I’d love to see more of them. While there isn’t source material, I’d still enjoy seeing how Liam and Cora mentor teenagers at Second Chances or how Suzette and Finn’s relationship blossoms.

Over to you, Hallmarkies. Are you pleased with the conclusion of Providence Falls? Were you surprised Boyd was the culprit? Would you like to see more of these characters?
