Superhero cinema has offered audiences some high points in 2025, including Thunderbolts*, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and Superman. Captain America: Brave New World is an unfortunate outlier in that group, as the film kicked off the year on a down note with negative reviews from fans and critics. The product of multiple reshoots, the film was clearly reworked multiple times, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the treatment of the Serpent Society — originally envisioned as a superpowered gang, but in the final film turned into a standard non-powered mercenary group.
