Francis Ford Coppola may not have had any input in the Naked Gun films/TV show, but without him, they wouldn't exist. It all starts with the Airplane! sequel. The key actors from the 1980 film Airplane! reprised their roles for the second film, but something was noticeably lost. Take a look at the opening credits, and you can instantly tell why. Airplane 2 wasn't the film that the writing trio of David Zucker, his brother Jerry, and partner Jim Abrahams desired to make, explaining why none of them participated in the now-obscure sequel. In a recent interview, Airplane! co-creator David Zucker bittersweetly recalled the far-superior plot that could have been Airplane II: The Sequel.
