J.K. Rowling Won't Fire 'Harry Potter's Paapa Essiedu for Pro-Trans Views
J.K. Rowling has asserted that she doesn't have the power, nor would she ever fire an actor from HBO's Harry Potterseries because of their pro-trans views. She shared her stance on X/Twitter in response to an article speculating about whether she would "sack" Paapa Essiedu, who has been cast as Severus Snape, after he recently signed an open letter calling for industry action on trans rights in the wake of the U.K. Supreme Court ruling that transgender women should not to be recognized as women — a decision that was celebrated by Rowling but decried by many others, including The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal.
