Michael Jackson Tried (and Failed) To Be the Next James Bond
Aside from music videos and a couple of cameos in movies like Men in Black II, Michael Jackson's filmography is shockingly barren for the man immortalized as The King of Pop. It was among the most bitter realities for an artist who succeeded at everything else without breaking a sweat, his mere silhouette recognizable worldwide. Despite all that, Jackson wanted nothing more than to see his name on the James Bond opening credits. Not as the singer of the theme song, no, he longed for the headlining role. James Bond with an '80s perm? How plausible was it? Not very. But the anecdotal accounts do give a glimpse into the naivety and delusional aspirations of a man surrounded by yes-men and hanger-ons for his entire life.
