Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs‘ sentencing date has been confirmed.

The rapper and music mogul was found guilty on two counts of transportation for engaging in prostitution, but was acquitted of racketeering and sex trafficking last Wednesday (July 2). He pleaded not guilty to all five charges.

Combs’ defence team had asked Judge Arun Subramanian for an expedited hearing process – initially rejecting the proposed date – just before a scheduled hearing yesterday (Tuesday July 8), per Rolling Stone.

However, they then agreed to the judge’s original proposed date of October 3.

Combs is currently awaiting sentencing at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, where he has been held since his arrest last September.

The defence argued last week that “exceptional circumstances” warranted expedited sentencing, including the 2018 death of Combs’ partner Kim Porter.

“The mother of some of his children had passed away many years ago. These kids, the two daughters here sitting in the middle of your honour’s second row, don’t have a parent,” defence attorney Marc Agnifilo said in court (via ABC News).

Combs faces a maximum sentence of 20 years behind bars on the two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. However, he could receive less than this because it is a first-time conviction.

His defence is pushing for Combs to be handed a minimum sentence, between 21 to 27 months.

But Southern District of New York prosecutors said the sentencing guidelines called for between 51 to 63 months imprisonment. They explained that they would likely be seeking an even longer period.

The trial had been running since May, with the vast majority of the court time being centred around the prosecution’s case.

According to BBC News, Combs prayed with his children and hugged his lawyers before the verdict was delivered last week. The courtroom is said to have “exploded with noise” after each verdict was read out.

Meanwhile, Kesha has expressed her support for Cassie Ventura following the verdict of the trial. Ventura had accused her ex-partner Combs of subjecting her to a decade-long “cycle of abuse, violence and sex trafficking” until their relationship ended in 2018.

A representative for Diddy denied these accusations, claiming that they were “offensive and outrageous” and followed Ventura demanding $30million from the rapper (via The Guardian).
