Christopher Nolan already had way more than a cult following heading into the summer of 2023. Then came Oppenheimer. The biopic of the physicist who helped America develop nuclear weapons (which is three somehow riveting hours of people talking and doing math) raked in nearly a billion dollars at the box office and won seven Academy Awards, including best picture. For most filmmakers, a monumental achievement like Oppenheimer would mark the pinnacle of their career. But rather than rest on his laurels, Nolan got to work on an even more ambitious project.
