Zimmer90 release new single ‘what a life’ from upcoming ‘Bose x NME: C25’ mixtape

Zimmer90 have released their dreamy new single ‘what a life’ from Bose and NME’s forthcoming ‘C25’ mixtape – check it out below.

‘Bose x NME: C25’ comes out in full next month (September 19) and spotlights the next generation of music talent from around the world. The first track to be unveiled was Parcels’ chilled-out ‘Summerinlove’ – released two weeks ago on August 1. Next up are German duo Zimmer90, whose laidback alt-pop is perfect for chilling with mates in the late summer sun.

New single ‘what a life’ follows on from a string of well-received tunes that Zimmer90 (made up of friends Joscha Becker and Finn Gronemeyer) have shared this year ahead of the release of their debut album, ‘Interior’, due out September 19. Stream ‘what a life’ in full below.

According to the group, the spark of inspiration for ‘what a life’ came while they were relaxing on a beach after playing a number of festivals in Spain. “A friend of ours said: ‘Look at this view, what a life.’ I thought that phrase was pretty fun, so I wrote it down,” Becker told NME recently.

“’What a life’ can mean ‘this is so nice’ but in the verses, the lyrics open up this more uncomfortable side. I love putting parts in songs that flip everything and change the meaning,” said Gronemeyer. “A lot of our songs live off that.”

The legendary C-Series compilation was relaunched in March 2023 thanks to a new partnership between NME and Bose. Featured artists on ‘C23′ included King Princess, Genesis Owusu and 070 Shake while last summer’s ‘C24’ mixtape boasted a stacked line-up including rugged soulmaster Teddy Swims, jazz-loving singer-songwriter Laufey, London-based musician Artemas and more. Combined, the two releases have racked up more than 100million streams.

‘C25’ will launch this September 19 on digital streaming platforms, alongside a limited run of vinyl records and cassette tapes. On Tape, an innovative video series featuring one-take, 360-degree performances from ‘C25’ artists, will also return after its hugely successful debut last year.
