It’s been announced that beloved UK horror game Phasmophobia will be getting a movie adaptation.

Developers Kinetic Games confirmed the news of the Phasmophobia movie earlier today (June 4). The project will be produced by Blumhouse (M3GAN, The Black Phone and Five Nights At Freddy’s) and Atomic Monster (Annabelle, The Nun and The Conjuring universe).

“We’re thrilled to officially announce that a Phasmophobia film adaption is in development – it’s a big moment for the whole Kinetic team, and the start of something really exciting,” said Daniel Knight (Dknighter), Director of Kinetic Games and Lead Developer of Phasmophobia in a statement.

“We never could’ve imagined the incredible heights this game would reach when it launched five years ago, and we’re so thankful to our amazing community for the lasting impact Phasmophobia has had in the gaming space and beyond. Working with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster marks an incredible new chapter for the game, and we can’t wait to share more as the project develops.”

A release date hasn’t been confirmed while details about cast and plot are still under wraps.

Phasmophobia was originally released in 2020 and the four-player online co-op psychological horror has gone on to sell more than 23million units. “Paranormal activity is on the rise and it’s up to you and your team to use all the ghost-hunting equipment at your disposal in order to gather as much evidence as you can,” reads the official description.

The major ‘Chronicle’ update is due to go live on June 24 and will overhaul Phasmophobia’s levelling, rewards, and progression systems. According to Kinetic, the game will see several more updates go live throughout 2025 including a rework to the Grafton Farmhouse and a brand new map.

Earlier this month, Bandai Namco confirmed an Elden Ring movie is in the works, with Alex Garland set to write and direct the film for A24 while it was reported that Euphoria star Hunter Schafer is being considered for a major role in the upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda film.

This year has also seen news of a “faithful” Resident Evil reboot movie from Barbarian creator Zach Cregger. Sony are also  working on a live-action adaptation of Helldivers 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn alongside an anime adaptation of Ghost Of Tsushima, which is set to premiere in 2027.

In other news, fans are expecting Resident Evil 9 to be officially announced this week.
