The Last Of Us is set in a world ravaged by the Cordyceps brain infection that transforms its hosts into zombie-like creatures. The first game was released in 2013 and saw players take control of gruff smuggler Joel who was tasked with transporting the young Ellie across the post-apocalyptic wasteland in an attempt to find a cure.
Along the way, the pair encounter a variety of horrible, infected creatures such as Bloaters, Clickers and Runners. The Last Of Us Part Two was released in 2020 and introduced new infected and human enemies to the series.
In a rare post on social media, Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus revealed that he’s a fan of the action survival game, but has a strange way of playing it. “Sometimes I turn on The Last Of Us video game and get to a spot where I’m safe but can still hear the screams of the damned,” he wrote on X. “Then I just set the game down and enjoy the vibe.”

“Glad to see Mark can be as unhinged as the rest of us,” one X user wrote in response to Hoppus’ revelation. “That’s so on brand for you tbh,” said another. “Mark coming back once a month to tweet something unhinged is my favourite,” added a third.
In 2020, Hoppus used Ellie’s acoustic guitar in The Last Of Us Part 2 to cover Blink-182’s ‘Dammit’. The same year, he gave The Washington Post a guided tour of his Animal Crossing: New Horizons island. “Animal Crossing is a game that I come back to all the time. I was even playing the [mobile] Pocket Camp version on my phone before this came out,” he explained. “It’s calming. It’s kind of meditative. It’s not too overwhelming. It’s not too flashy or violent and whatever (not that I mind those games — I like playing those games sometimes). It’s just a chill thing for me to do.”
Hoppus recently spoke to NME about Blink-182’s rivalry with Green Day, dating back to their shared 2002 ‘Pop Disaster Tour’, and revealed that he “wishes” he’d kissed The Cure‘s Robert Smith.
In other news Neil Druckmann, head of Naughty Dog and co-creator of The Last Of Us, has reignited the debate about a potential cure in the hit video game.
