Peacemaker May Be The Main Character But Vigilante Is The Real Star of the Show

I have many thoughts about the Peacemaker Season 2 premiere, but the main gripe I have is that there wasn’t enough screentime for Vigilante.

Of course, Peacemaker is the star of the show (after all, the title is literally his name).

But since Season 1 first premiered, many fans, including myself, were particularly drawn to another character on the show: Vigilante, aka Adrian Chase.

There’s so much to love about Vigilante as a character, including how entertaining his one-liners are and also how he balances out the seriousness of every other character on the show.

So, while waiting for the next episode of Peacemaker Season 2 to drop on Thursday, here’s a look at why Vigilante is one of the best characters on the show.

Vigilante Provides Much-Needed Comic Relief

While Peacemaker is technically an action/drama superhero show, James Gunn has always been known for incorporating comedy into his work.

In the case of this show, that comedy comes from Vigilante’s presence.

The other characters, such as Leota, have some wonderful comedic moments, but Vigilante consistently delivers laughs.

Most of the humor comes from the fact that Vigilante is pretty clueless.

He wants to be a superhero but lacks a moral compass, leading him to act out in unexpected ways.

His extreme measures and responses to normal scenarios also make Peacemaker seem hilariously reasonable in comparison.

For example, one of my favorite moments is when Vigilante asks Goff if her favorite color is teal because he’s determined to learn what he believes is essential information about the creature.

Peacemaker, as a show, covers some heavy topics, such as complicated father-son relationships and wrangling with self-discovery and identity.

So, having a comic relief amidst the series’ relatively serious dramatic moments is a wonderful break.

Plus, I never feel like Vigilante’s comedy is way too over the top or that it detracts from the main story.

There’s So Much to Explore in Vigilante’s Character

When Vigilante is introduced, we learn that he’s a young person trying to become a superhero and looks up to Peacemaker.

But beyond that, we still don’t know a ton about Adrian Chase and his past.

Other characters in the show have clearer backstories, such as Leota’s connection to Amanda Waller, a character who has a large role in the DC universe

However, Vigilante’s story is told in bits and pieces, leaving viewers wondering when they’ll get a deeper insight into his character.

Season 2 is the perfect opportunity to dive deeper into Vigilante’s past and see how he can grow from his Peacemaker Season 1 self.

Especially since fighting alongside Peacemaker has led to some close brushes with death, it would be fascinating to see if this influences how Vigilante approaches his superhero duties.

Additionally, Vigilante’s friendships with the rest of the characters are consistently fun to watch.

Everybody, particularly Harcourt, is often fed up with the way Vigilante has trouble taking anything seriously.

But they also find him to be a great helping hand whenever Peacemaker gets caught in a sticky situation.

I could probably ramble on and on about my favorite Vigilante scenes, but I’m going to hold off until the end of Season 2 to see what more antics Adrian gets up to.

Especially with the raised stakes, there should be more chances for Vigilante to start developing his moral compass and figuring out his identity alongside Peacemaker’s giant identity crisis.

Hopefully, Vigilante gets some more chances to shine alongside his friends and his idol, Peacemaker, as Season 2 progresses.
