Steven Spielberg's Work on His Greatest Summer Blockbuster Gave Him Nightmares

Jaws, the 1975 horror thriller directed by Steven Spielberg when he was in his 20s, turns 50 years old this year. Today, the film is considered revolutionary because of how it changed the rules of commercial cinema in the 1970s, a decade that saw the industry go through an important shift in terms of the studio system. Although the movie is a fine display of the director's storytelling skills, it's widely known that it was a troubled production. Due to many factors, Jaws wasn't a smooth sailing trip for the rising director, and on the film's 50th anniversary, he confesses that the production gave him nightmares "for years afterwards."
