The Emmys: The Biggest Snubs and Surprises in 2025

The television landscape is ever-changing. Home viewers have largely transitioned from cable to streaming. What was once a monoculture has become infinitely fragmented into subcultures. 22-episode seasons are rare, while eight or even four-episode arcs have become the norm. Runtimes are no longer 22 or 44 minutes; they're whatever directors want or budgets allow for. The line between comedy and drama has blurred practically to oblivion, as has the line between regular and limited series. And blockbuster IP — from Dune to Star Wars, from Marvel and DC Studios — is increasingly the subject of small-screen programming.
