Watch Caroline Polachek cover Nick Drake’s ‘River Man’ in Colorado art gallery

Caroline Polachek covered Nick Drake’s ‘River Man’ in an art gallery in Colorado this week – watch footage below.

The singer-songwriter played a one-off show at the Aspen Art Museum on Thursday night (July 31) as part of the venue’s AIR program of live performances and artistic collaborations.

During her performance, she included a delicate, heartfelt rendition of ‘River Man’, the song from legendary English folk musician Nick Drake’s 1969 debut album ‘Five Leaves Left’.

Polachek has a habit of covering vintage songs, with her performance of Radiohead’s ‘True Love Waits’ last October also taking place in an art gallery – Paris’ Musée de L’Orangerie.

In Melbourne in 2023, she also performed verses of Grimes’ ‘Delete Forever’ and Dido’s ‘Thank You’ during ‘Fly To You’, her collaboration with the two artists, while she also released a recorded version of The Corrs’ 2000 single ‘Breathless’ as a bonus track on ‘Standing At The Gate: Remix Collection’.

Elsewhere, Polachek was also a contributor to Blood Orange’s ‘Mind Loaded’, the lead single from his new album ‘Essex Honey’, which is set to be released on August 29.

She also released the official title track for the game Death Stranding 2: On The Beach in June, which she co-wrote with Danny L Harle and the game’s creator Hideo Kojima.

“‘On The Beach’ was actually one of the first songs I ever made with Danny L Harle, but it was too alien and industrial- almost too evil – to work sense on [her 2019 album] ‘Pang’, so I set it aside til the right thing came along,” said Polachek.

“When Kojima approached me about Death Stranding 2, I showed him the sketch of it and he agreed that it was a perfect fit, and so eight years after starting this song, it got reopened, extended, and finished for the perfect setting.”

Caroline Polachek’s last single was 2024’s ‘Starburned And Unkissed’ but she more recently appeared on songs with caroline (‘Tell Me I Never Knew That’) and Charli XCX (‘Everything Is Romantic’).
